What is EEG Biofeedback? - Videos follow introduction
EEG Biofeedback is the latest technology in computer based brain training. It is a way of giving feedback to the brain that allows it to change, moving it into a more balanced and better functioning state. A practitioner will attach sensors to your head and ears allowing the computer to record your brainwaves (the electrical activity of the brain). Information about your brain waves is then fed back to you via the computer during a session that lasts approximately 45 minutes.
The information on the computer monitor is presented in pictures and sounds and in such a way that allows the brain to absorb the information, bringing it back into a more balanced state. Basically the computer coaches you to use your brain differently. For example the training can relax someone who is anxious or stressed, motivate someone who is depressed, help drug uses to not need drugs or focus someone with attention problems (like with ADHD).
Studies have even revealed that EEG Biofeedback can play a major role in the treatment of many issues, these including;
- Anxiety and Depression
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and other learning difficulties
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Chemo-Brain (following Chemotherapy treatment)
- Improves IQ for students
- Peak Performance Training (athletes, musicians, actors and corporate workers)
- Traumatic Brain Injury
How do you know if your brain is not in Balance?
Think of your brain as a race car, capable of incredible performance. Now imagine a driver behind the wheel who does not know how to properly shift gears. It is for this reason that many people have problems functioning in day to day life. It is also why EEG biofeedback is such a useful treatment for the conditions mentioned above, because it helps you shift gears better! Other signs that your brain might be out of balance and benefit from EEG biofeedback include; memory problems, poor performance on tasks, inability to focus, difficulty sleeping, headaches, irritability and not being able to put what you know into practice
Is it Safe?
Yes, EEG Biofeedback has been around for over 30 years, first used by NASA to train pilots to perform better. Whilst in a session, the computer is only giving the brain information about itself, which the brain then uses to make positive change. It is totally natural and safe.
