The Anxiety Resources Program is the culmination of my 20 year personal and professional struggle with fear, anxiety and panic. First it might be helpful to give you a little bit of information about myself and my personal / professional experience with fear, anxiety and panic so you can get a better idea about where I am coming from.
I actually have a very clear memory of the moment I realized I desperately needed to do something about my issues with anxiety. Are you there yet? I was in my early twenties and had just finished a degree in psychology, in an attempt to follow my goal and passion of becoming a psychologist and helping others.
This should have been a really positive moment in my life, and although I was proud of myself, at the same time I was gripped by fear, anxiety, panic and doubt. Formally I was suffering from what is called Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Phobia. How could I continue following my dream? Unless I found a way to stop these conditions ruining my life, I was never going to achieve my goal.
I had the piece of paper telling me I could work as a psychologist but my anxieties were so debilitating that I could not function socially. For example I literally could not talk to people, or use the telephone. I had problems with insomnia, muscle pain, headaches, fatigue and negative coping strategies.
How was I going to practice as a psychologist with such debilitating anxieties and a total lack of confidence?
That moment was the start of a twenty year search to discover what works when treating fear, anxiety and panic. The material covered in my book and on this website is the culmination of my search so far.
Believe me it was a long and challenging search, as there is a lot of material out there that is useless at best, or damaging at worst. I believe my unique situation of wanting and needing a solution for myself and my clients, as well as my openness to chase down what ever worked (no matter where it came from), gave me this unique perspective and has resulted in an approach that works.
I have focused on including everything in this website that transformed my own issues with anxiety, and those of my clients. I have also focused on making this information practical so you can start turning your fear, anxiety and panic from a liability into an asset right now, and immediately start addressing one of the key issues that exacerbates fear, anxiety and panic-AVOIDANCE!
Although I have included my discoveries about fear, anxiety and panic here, ultimately I came to see (as I think you will) that fear, anxiety and panic are only symptoms of something deeper. This discovery has led me on a broader journey of personal growth that has been very rich and rewarding.
Therefore I have reflected the broader nature of my journey by including general material focusing on personal growth and a section called “what I have been researching this month”. I will be regularly adding to this section, so coming back to this section from time to time may also be very helpful.
I have done my best to make this information user friendly and widely applicable to a range of people.
